What happens when perfect geometry collides with organic flow? In this time-lapse, I create a 5 ft x 3 ft alcohol ink painting using a custom 3D-printed spirograph layered against my signature fluid, organic movement. This piece was an experiment in contrast. Precision versus chaos. Structure versus intuition. The spirograph introduced a rigid, mathematical foundation. The alcohol ink did what it always does, pushing, bleeding, and refusing control. Watching these two forces interact became the most interesting part of the process. This was not about making the geometry dominant. It was about seeing how order behaves when exposed to flow, and how flow responds when constrained by structure. Seen too many wood slab tables that all look the same? I wanted to create something that blended my art background with functional design and push beyond the typical epoxy and slab formulas. In this project, I designed and built a standing desk using forged carbon fiber paired with a solid oak slab. Coming from alcohol ink and fluid art, this build was less about traditional woodworking and more about exploring material movement, texture, and visual contrast in a physical, usable form. Forged carbon fiber behaves more like controlled chaos than a standard resin pour, which made this feel closer to painting than building furniture. The process involved a lot of experimentation, problem-solving, and translating an abstract art mindset into a structural object. This is not a move into traditional wood builds. My foundation is still art, fluid motion, and creative exploration. This project was about seeing what happens when that mindset meets unconventional materials and functional design.
